Wilco – The Whole Love

For a second there Wilco had me convinced that they were losing their bite. Then I heard the opener Art of Almost. 7 minutes of guitar, a toe tapping bass line, layers of keyboards, and one of the best drum beats Glenn Kotche has put on a Wilco album. Unfortunately this jam is the only one of it’s kind on The Whole Love, but what’s left is a pleasant surprise. With I Might, Dawned On Me, The Whole Love, and Born Alone, Jeff Tweedy and Wilco have made some of their catchiest songs to date. Let’s face it: Wilco is never going to make an album as uniquely magnificent as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but on what I think is their best record since A Ghost Is Born, they’ve proven that they can still effortlessly invoke feelings of bittersweet bliss.
